Behind the studio

A physician by profession.
A creator by curiosity.

I'm Sanat Debbarma, a physician specializing in Internal Medicine and the independent developer behind Sanat Utility Studio.

Medicine is my day-to-day career; building things with code has been a parallel obsession since long before the current AI wave.

01 / Background

Two interests, one ongoing education.

My curiosity about software began while I was studying medicine. In the late 2000s, I experimented with basic HTML and taught myself aspects of Java and Python. I built simple websites using free hosting services, often for people browsing the internet from their mobile phones.

One of those sites survives in the Internet Archive: a colourful collection of links to mobile utilities, Java and Symbian software, music, and other resources. It was not exactly a masterclass in minimalist design. But it was where I started learning how a small idea could become something another person could actually use.

I continued my medical training and clinical career while keeping that interest alive. Today I work in Internal Medicine and develop software independently in the time I can make for it.

02 / The journey

From early web pages to practical tools.

  1. 2008–2011

    First websites and experiments

Self-directed HTML experiments and mobile-oriented websites alongside medical studies.

  2. Later years

    Medicine remains the main career

Clinical practice and postgraduate Internal Medicine training, with technology continuing as an independent pursuit.

  3. 2026 onward

    Sanat Utility Studio

Focused Android and desktop applications for everyday tasks, media workflows, and experiments with local AI.

03 / Approach

What AI changed, and what it didn't.

AI-assisted development has helped me revisit ideas that once seemed difficult to attempt without formal computer science training. I use it to study unfamiliar concepts, explore possible solutions, examine errors and improve implementations through repeated testing.

It is also very capable of giving a confident answer that turns out to be wrong. Reviewing code, checking results, making design decisions and accepting responsibility for the finished software are still my work.

AI was the tool, not the creative pilot. It helped me navigate problems, but the curiosity and direction stayed mine.

Beyond software, I enjoy music and other forms of digital creativity. Through this website, I plan to share project notes, tutorials and experiments, along with useful developments in software, developer tools, AI and the wider world of technology. My preference is always for clarity over hype.
